Theater Rocks: Analysis & Appreciation of the Rock Musical from Hair to Hamilton

Description:
This course will explore the evolution of the Rock Musical from the 1960’s to today. Since rock music was introduced in the United States in the 1950’s it has often been seen as a part of “youth culture” – noisy, unintelligible and at times vulgar.  By exploring the introduction of rock music, rhythms and instruments into the world of musical theater this course will help the students gain a better understanding of how exciting and controversial musicals really can be.

Worcester State University, Adjunct Professor, Opera Appreciation - MU150

Description:
In this overview course, students will learn about the melodramatic world of opera through the study of master works and their adaptations into movies, musical theater, operettas, and rock operas. We will explore the development of opera from its origins to its influence on today’s pop culture.
